Phil Simms Wants To Punch Desmond Howard's Lights Out

DALLAS - ESPN analyst Desmond Howard said Saturday that former Giants quarterback Phil Simms threatened him over comments he made about one of Simms' sons, Tennessee quarterback Matt Simms. Howard tweeted that Simms, 56, said "he wanted 2 take a swing at me" during an exchange at the NFL Experience before today's Super Bowl. "Desmond and I were having a private conversation that became heated," Simms, part of the No. 1 NFL broadcasting team for CBS, told SI.com. "But at no time was there ever a chance of any physical confrontation." Howard, 40, said Simms, father of former Bucs quarterback Chris Simms, took offense to an on-air comment prior to last year's Tennessee-LSU game that fans would see "3 of the worse QBs in the SEC." Matt Simms, then a junior, was replaced after a 2-6 start. Howard, a former Heisman Trophy winner from Michigan, sent four tweets. One said he was "DEAD serious about the Phil Simms thing."

Okay, so Simms is about 6'4" and 230lbs.  Howard is about 5'10" and 180lbs.  Simms clearly gets the advantage here.  But Simms is 56 years old and Howard is only 40.  Classic boxer versus puncher matchup.  Simms has size and strength.  Howard has youth and quickness.  It's like Ali-Foreman.  Boxer against puncher.  I'm goin' with the boxer - Desmond Howard.  The longer the fight lasts, the more tired Simms gets and Howard keeps dazzling him with his speed.  You shouldn't have picked that fight, Phil.  You're goin' DOWN!  And we have a new "Champeen!"  Down goes Simms!  Down goes Simms!  Cue Michael Buffer.  Bang.  Pay attention!
