SAN DIEGO - Veteran San Diego weatherman Joe Lizura, who recently left KUSI-TV without explanation, has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of engaging in lewd conduct in public, stemming from allegations that he was masturbating in the window of a Normal Heights office building in October. The San Diego City Attorney’s Office filed the case against Lizura, 49, in January. He entered the guilty plea Jan. 31 and was placed on probation for three years. Lizura was ordered to pay a $200 fine and attend at least one counseling session. He also was ordered to stay away from the victim. Reached by e-mail Friday, Lizura referred inquiries about the case to his attorney, Chris Morris. “The witnesses are adamant that they saw what they saw," Morris said. "Joe is adamant that it didn’t happen that way.” Morris said he and Lizura weighed the options and decided that pleading guilty to one of the lesser charges was the best option to take. Lizura had faced a misdemeanor count of indecent exposure, but that charge was dropped in light of the plea. According to a report by San Diego police, a woman in her 20s who attends San Diego State University said she saw Lizura standing in the glass door of the offices of Latin American Multimedia Corp. on Adams Avenue near 39th Street. She reported that he was fully clothed but masturbating while looking at her as she waited at a bus stop. Another witness at the bus stop claimed to have seen the incident as well, said police Lt. Andra Brown. Police who went to the building learned that Lizura had been there at the time. When questioned about it, he reportedly told police that he was there and had been adjusting the blinds. The young woman identified Lizura out of a photo lineup. A KUSI official told The San Diego Union-Tribune that Lizura “resigned to pursue his own business.” The multimedia company films and produces Spanish-language programming at the office building, including a bilingual series for preschoolers called “Dos y Dos,” created by Lizura.
