Former NBA Player Jose Ortiz Rios Charged With Being A Pot Farmer
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - A former NBA player has been arrested in Puerto Rico after federal agents say they seized 218 marijuana plants and 40 rounds of assault-rifle ammunition at his house. Jose Ortiz Rijos was charged Thursday with possession with intent to distribute marijuana plants. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney. U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez says Ortiz faces a minimum of five years in prison if found guilty. She said that federal agents on Wednesday raided a home he was renting in the central mountain town of Cayey. It followed a monthlong investigation following a tip to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Ortiz played for the Utah Jazz from 1988 to 1990. He also played for Oregon State University.
Is it finally time to admit that just about every NBA player, past and present, is a total pothead? Personally I don't really care if they are or they aren't, but let's all admit to the white elephant in the room. I mean even Robert Parish got busted for havin' weed FedExed to his house. It's rampant and it's been goin' on forever. Matter of fact, I think a law should be passed to give these guys immunity. Hell, it's only a parking ticket here in Massachusetts now anyway. I say no harm no foul. Now, as for that little matter of the 40 rounds of assault-rifle ammo - that's a different kettle of fish altogether.
